Delicious CBD Recipes

Cannabis butter, hash brownies, and other hemp products have gained increasing popularity in recent years. We often receive questions from adventurous customers asking if our oil can be used for cooking. The answer is generally: Yes! You can cook with CBD oil just like you would with sunflower oil or rapeseed oil. We've even included a recipe from our Hanfgeflüster chef colleagues.

However, there are a few things to keep in mind. When cooking with CBD oil, temperatures should not exceed 90°C for two reasons: Firstly, the cannabinoids in full-spectrum oil degrade at high temperatures and convert into other substances, losing their desired effect. Secondly, we do not recommend overheating the oil because, from experience, it can develop a bitter taste.

Therefore, it is particularly suitable for cold dishes and sides such as salads, dips, or cold soups. The active ingredient CBD is best absorbed due to its lipophilic properties when bound by fats in the digestive tract. Dishes containing healthy, unsaturated fatty acids are especially suitable. Hemp oil can also be mixed very well with fine, high-proof spirits like vodka, rum, or cognac.

Cannabis Butter

First, you'll need the following ingredients:

  • 250g butter
  • a little water
  • 1 teaspoon Hanfgeflüster CBD oil
  • Garlic, chili, or herbs as desired

To make cannabis butter, first melt the butter completely in a saucepan and then add a little water. Now add the CBD oil to the pot. It is important to turn down the heat, as the oil is very heat-sensitive, as mentioned earlier. Now patience is key: the mixture needs to simmer on low heat for at least 2 hours. If you want to refine your butter, add other ingredients of your choice. There are no limits to your creativity.

The possibilities are as varied as the uses for your CBD cannabis butter. Whether you want to conjure up a savory dish or use it for your next space cookies or hash brownies – just try it! In the next step, you need to pour the liquid cannabis butter into a container and let it harden in the refrigerator or freezer for a few hours. The butter will keep in the refrigerator for about two weeks, but you can of course also freeze it.

Guacamole with CBD Oil

Avocado has become very popular due to its many unsaturated fatty acids. This also makes it a very good carrier for hemp extract oil. Here we share our recipe for a CBD guacamole. First, you will need the following ingredients:

  • 3 ripe avocados
  • Juice of one lime
  • 2 ripe tomatoes
  • Salt and pepper
  • 1 chopped onion
  • Lightly crushed garlic
  • 3 tablespoons chopped cilantro
  • A little cayenne pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Hanfgeflüster CBD oil

First, mash the avocados and finely chop the tomatoes, which you then mix with the lime juice. Then add the chopped onion, garlic, a little salt and pepper, other spices, and, if you like, cilantro. Now mix everything into a soft mass. Finally, add a teaspoon of CBD oil, which gives your guacamole a healthy finishing touch.

Hash Brownies

We've also picked out a delicious recipe for homemade cakes in the "Hash Brownies" style. For the dough you will need:

  • 300g milk chocolate
  • 200g dark chocolate
  • 400g butter
  • 3g cannabis
  • 6 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 350g sugar
  • 1 packet vanilla sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 9 eggs
  • 300g flour
  • Hanfgeflüster CBD oil

First, preheat the oven to 175ºC top and bottom heat. Then melt the butter with the CBD oil (see the cannabis butter recipe for this) and the chocolate separately, then combine them in a mixing bowl.

Then add the cocoa powder, sugar, vanilla sugar, milk, and salt and mix the mixture. Afterwards, add the eggs and finally sift the flour into the dough. The dough should now be slightly difficult to stir.

Now you can put the dough on a baking sheet and bake it on the middle rack for about 25 minutes. When the brownies are done, they should cool for 15 minutes, then they can be cut into square pieces.

Hemp Tea as a CBD Beverage

Tea is the most widespread and simplest way to consume herbs. As early as 3000 BC, the leaves and flowers of the hemp plant were prepared as tea in Asia. From there, hemp tea, with its calming effect, spread throughout the world.

Preparation of Hemp Tea

Hemp is a particularly robust plant, which means that pesticides can be completely avoided. This also allows for a good harvest, as the plant withstands hot summer months undamaged, while, for example, a third of the wheat harvest withers.

After harvesting, the flowers are dried for one month, and once they have lost their moisture, they are ground to a tea consistency. However, in the hemp flower, CBD is still stored as an acid, i.e., CBDa. To extract CBD, the acid must be decarboxylated. For this, the ground flowers and leaves are heated to approx. 200°C for about 10 minutes. Afterwards, any large stem remnants are removed, and the finished tea is packed in portions.

Effects and Use of Hemp Tea

The effect of hemp tea varies greatly with the strains used. In Germany, hemp products with a THC content not exceeding 0.2% are freely available. This is intended to eliminate the risk of getting high.

However, the cannabis plant contains many other active ingredients. The second most well-known among them is CBD, which is not psychoactive. Hemp tea made from cannabis leaves basically contains the same active ingredients and thus has similar effects to CBD oils. However, it is hardly possible to achieve similar concentrations of active ingredients.

Hemp tea is prepared in a tea infuser or a loose tea bag. The longer it steeps, the more intense its flavor. Our recommendation is to let the hemp tea steep for about 10 minutes and sweeten it with a little honey.

Honey is also a highly effective natural remedy with a calming note, which is why hemp tea and honey perfectly support each other in their effectiveness. Hemp tea can have a soothing effect on irritated nerves, but also help with stomach pains.

We find it to be the perfect goodnight drink, as it can help with falling asleep and ensure deeper sleep. Other effects that hemp tea can have:

  • relaxing and calming
  • strengthening the immune system
  • strengthening the digestive tract
  • antispasmodic
  • mood-lifting

Hemp Tea for Strengthening the Immune System and Self-Healing Powers

Hemp tea is often used at the onset of cold seasons as it can help strengthen the immune system. Since hemp is known to stimulate the body's natural defenses and self-healing powers, hemp tea is also frequently administered after illnesses or operations. It has become increasingly popular among naturopaths in recent years.

Vegan Cooking with CBD Oil

All our Hanfgeflüster oils are 100% vegan, as we use a high-quality, plant-based MCT oil. Basically, you can add the oil to all your usual dishes, as long as you are careful when heating it. The oil can give your dishes a new, extraordinary touch and perfectly rounds off healthy meals. However, when it comes to purchasable CBD foods and sweet temptations with added CBD, Americans are once again pioneers.

Ben & Jerry's: A CBD Ice Cream for the American Market

The so-called "Edibles" probably caused a boom in the food industry. These are food products infused with THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), such as gummy bears or the well-known space cookies. However, CBD-containing products are also appearing more and more frequently. Just in time for April 20, 2019 (World Cannabis Day), the American fast-food chain "Carl's Jr." dared a very special marketing move and added its first CBD burger to its menu. In mid-2019, Ben & Jerry's also announced that they planned to include a CBD flavor in their range. In a statement on the company's website, CEO Matthew McCarthy said, "We're doing this for our fans."
