They taste like strawberry or vanilla and promise a particularly comfortable vaping experience: Vape Pens are part of everyday life for many. Especially people who used to smoke tobacco use these pens for the transition from smoker to non-smoker.
Meanwhile, nicotine-free vape pens, but with the cannabinoid cannabidiol (CBD), are becoming increasingly popular. They are considered a comfortable way to integrate CBD into daily life.
Many are now wondering if CBD vape pens really deliver on their promises. Do CBD vapes even work? How can I check the quality and CBD content of the products in the pen? And: Are disposable pens really a sensible alternative?
Table of Contents
CBD vapes are particularly convenient and act quickly. The problem: it's hard to tell how much you've actually absorbed - especially with CBD for therapeutic purposes (e.g. for pain), which can be problematic. Also, the effect doesn't last long.
Disposable vape pens generate electronic waste, sometimes contain questionable additives, and the origin of the CBD and THC content are difficult to trace.
CBD sprays and oils are the more sustainable alternative and can be easily integrated into your daily routine. They allow for targeted dosing, last longer, and are significantly more environmentally friendly.
Classically, CBD oil is dropped under the tongue, usually as part of a daily routine, e.g. in the morning. Some people also use CBD in acute stress situations or to improve their well-being in the short term. For some, however, the handling is too complicated or they don't want to do without their CBD on the go or at work.
Here, vaping CBD has proven itself. Cannabidiol is inhaled in the form of vapor. The resulting vapor is not smoke; in contrast to classic combustion when smoking, CBD is only heated to temperatures between 160 and 200 degrees Celsius when vaping. No combustion products are produced - compared to a classic cigarette or joint, vaping is much gentler on the respiratory tract.
Another advantage compared to sublingual intake: The active ingredient reaches the bloodstream directly via the lungs - much faster than with classic CBD oils. But: The effect usually only lasts one to two hours. Oils and sprays, on the other hand, have a longer-lasting and gentler effect on the entire organism.
Important information
When vaping, it is difficult to determine how much CBD you actually absorb per puff. If you want a targeted, long-lasting intake, you quickly reach your limits here - especially if you use CBD for therapeutic purposes (e.g. for pain).
In principle, CBD vapes can work well, provided they actually contain high-quality cannabidiol in the appropriate concentration. The lungs are a very efficient route of absorption, which is why CBD works so quickly when vaped. In contrast to CBD oil, which first has to be absorbed via the oral mucosa or the digestive tract, the active ingredient gets directly into the blood when inhaled.
The bioavailability of vaped CBD is also particularly high: around 30-50% of the inhaled CBD is absorbed by the body, whereas with sublingual intake it is only about 10-20%.
However, how strong the effect is depends on various factors: the concentration of CBD in the liquid or flower, the amount of vapor per puff, the inhalation technique, and of course, individual constitution. Some people are particularly sensitive to CBD, while others need larger doses to feel an effect.
And this is where it becomes problematic: especially with disposable pens, neither the exact composition nor the origin of the ingredients can be traced. The dosage is quite opaque. This can be quite difficult, especially if you use CBD products to treat specific symptoms.
In general, vaporizing CBD makes dosing more difficult and less traceable. Therefore, it is not suitable for finding your ideal dose.
Of course: disposable pens with CBD liquids are really practical. The liquid is already in, just switch it on, take a puff, done. The liquids get their aroma either from artificial flavors like vanillin or from natural flavors of the hemp plant, the terpenes.
The problem: the vapes are made of plastic, and together with the included battery/accumulator, they are simply thrown away after use. These things are almost never recycled - instead, they end up in household waste and then in the incinerator or landfill.
In addition, the ingredients of ready-made CBD pens are not always clearly declared, and the origin of the CBD often remains unclear. Often, residues from the production of the pens are included, which you inhale with every puff. Laboratory analyses are almost never available.
The temperature of the pens is often not traceable. Tests have shown that pens often overheat CBD liquids, which can severely impair their effectiveness.
The classic alternative to the disposable pen are vaporizers, some of which are also used for medical cannabis. Some of these are even covered by health insurance.
With them, the temperature can be set individually, CBD flowers can be vaporized specifically, and consumption is much easier to control. Vaporizers also fare better in terms of sustainability because some of them can be reused for many years.
Furthermore, you have the advantage here of being able to specifically choose your own flowers or extracts. This can be a great advantage, especially if you are using CBD for a specific symptom.
But: Such a vaporizer is neither particularly handy nor particularly discreet. For everyday use on the go, the devices are often too large, too conspicuous or too sensitive. In addition, a certain amount of preparation is required - you have to store flowers/extracts well, keep the device and accessories clean and know exactly how to use them.
The trend towards refillable pens has naturally not passed by the CBD scene. The devices can be refilled multiple times with the CBD liquid of your choice. This not only protects the environment and saves a lot of money - it also allows you to precisely determine the CBD concentration. Some models even allow temperature adjustment, which can have a big impact on the effect of the CBD.
Nevertheless: even if refillable devices are more environmentally friendly, inhalation via the lungs is the central weakness. Although bioavailability is high, the effect is often short-lived. Those who want to use CBD therapeutically quickly realize that the effects do not last consistently - and that is precisely not the goal for anxiety, sleep problems or chronic complaints!
Furthermore, vaping (whether disposable or refillable pen) is not desired everywhere. And: Even with high-quality liquids, you often cannot precisely trace the content. Not all providers on the market are reputable! For example, the THC content in finished liquids is often not traceable - so this is not a real alternative for sensitive people and all those who definitely do not want to experience a high.
In recent years, CBD sprays have proven to be an optimal solution for those who are often on the go and still don't want to skip their CBD routine.
CBD sprays provide all the positive effects of sublingual absorption through the oral mucosa. The effects kick in relatively quickly, are reliably long-lasting, and easily dosed. One spray corresponds to a defined amount of CBD – unlike the vague puffs from a CBD pen.
Additionally, they offer flexible use: sprays can be carried discreetly in any bag, used unobtrusively, and no one is bothered by vapor or odors. No charging, no disposal, no (potentially uncontrolled) heat development. Even for beginners, application is intuitive and requires no technical understanding. For those who want to use CBD for flight anxiety, stressful work situations, or before falling asleep, this is a simple solution without effort and without risks to the respiratory tract.
Another point in favor of CBD sprays is their variety. Many manufacturers offer different varieties, concentrations, flavors, or carrier oils – from neutral to minty, from low to highly concentrated. We also offer many of our classic full-spectrum CBD oils as sprays.
High-quality products stand out for maximum transparency regarding ingredients; laboratory analyses help you understand exactly what you're consuming.
Alongside sprays, classic CBD oils for sublingual drops also remain relevant. They are particularly suitable if you want to integrate CBD into your daily routines.
For example, if you use CBD to sleep better, you can perfectly incorporate its use into your bedtime routines (e.g., meditation, calm music, tea) to help your body relax. The effect sets in slowly, and the relaxation lasts for several hours.
Oil and spray also excel in terms of sustainability. Minimal packaging, recyclable glass bottles, no electronic waste – the ideal choice for anyone who wants to do something good for themselves and the world.

As comfortable as a CBD vape pen might seem at first glance, a closer look reveals several weaknesses. Although CBD liquids work particularly quickly, they are difficult to dose, and their effect doesn't last long. Added to this are potentially questionable ingredients and a shockingly poor eco-balance. Disposable pens, in particular, exemplify a consumer culture that is hardly compatible with a mindful lifestyle.
Even though high-quality vaporizers can compensate for some drawbacks, they remain impractical in many everyday situations. Anyone who wants to use CBD purposefully, effectively, and sustainably is much better off with oils or practical CBD sprays. They offer easy dosing, discretion, and quality – all without vapor or waste.
